TheFuneralSite.com announced today the launch of the SanDiegoFuneralGuide.com, the first-ever San Diego online guide for funeral planning. While several companies produce local wedding-planning guides, no one has created a local funeral planning guide. “We want to help people explore their options and plan funerals or celebrations-of-life at home, on their computers,” Anna Copley, cofounder of the San Diego Funeral Guide, said.
The San Diego Funeral Guide can be found at www.SanDiegoFuneralGuide.com. It is part of www.TheFuneralSite.com, a national funeral planning Web site based in Seattle.
“We launched the national Web site a year and a half ago, and since then we’ve realized that most of funeral planning involves local vendors – caterers, musicians, florists. We decided to create a series of local funeral guides to help people explore their options and hook up with businesses in their communities,” Copley said.
The SanDiegoFuneralGuide.com features an interactive map of all the funeral homes in the San Diego area. Some of those funeral homes are “featured” with their own Web pages containing photos and other information. Consumers can identify funeral homes in their area, compare services and be more informed of their funeral options.
More than 20 categories of vendors are included in the San Diego Funeral Guide. Some of these categories include — ash scattering by boat, ash scattering by plane, clergy/celebrants, flowers, dove release, reception sites, and musicians. However, some categories present unique options such as Home Funeral Guides and Green Funeral Providers. Another unique category is Grief Support. All vendors in this category are nonprofit organizations that provide free or low-cost counseling for the grieving.
The Guide provides local insight on funeral planning in Southern California. Articles include Low Cost Funeral Tips for the San Diego Area, Green Funerals and Burials, and Scattering Remains in the San Diego Area. The Guide includes a comprehensive overview of the California state laws regulating funeral homes and cemeteries.
In keeping with their mission to help people plan funerals, the site offers an online funeral-planning tool called MY FUNERAL. MY FUNERAL covers all issues involved, from major considerations like, “Do I want to be buried or cremated?”, to details such as what should be inscribed on a headstone. The MY FUNERAL tool contains seven steps, but users can skip steps or stop at any time and all their completed work will be saved. MY FUNERAL helps people consider their many options, make informed decisions, and pass these decisions on to people who will carry out their wishes.
