Arranging a Funeral: Essential Information
Arranging a funeral following the death of a relative or close friend can be a daunting experience. But help is at hand, with professional bodies such as the NAFD and SAIF are there to guide you through the process. These organisations can help you find a funeral director who will help you organise a funeral that will suit your individual requirements.
Choosing a Funeral Director
By choosing a director of funerals who is accredited to a professional body you can be assured of a high quality service, professional competence and personal commitment, at all times.
NAFD (National Association of Funeral Directors)
Businesses that are members of NAFD operate according to a strict Code of Practice, which requires them to provide a consistently high quality service, professionalism and cost transparency. The NAFD is an independent trade association. Its nationwide membership spans a wide range of funeral services’ providers including funeral directors and undertakers, funeral homes, funeral parlours and related suppliers. Address: NAFD, 618 Warwick Road, Solihull, West Midlands, B91 1AA; Website: www.nafd.org.uk; telephone: 0845 230 1343.
SAIF (National Society of Allied and Independent Funeral Directors)
SAIF members are typically undertakers who work in privately-owned or family-run businesses, serving the needs of their local communities. SAIF funeral directors are recognised for their ability to personalise funeral services to suit all budgets and financial circumstances, whilst also refusing to compromise on quality. Above all, SAIF members pride themselves on treating people as individuals while offering that personal touch. The SAIF website: www.saif.org.uk (its mission, ‘Working to Make Bereavement More Bearable’), provides useful information for both members of the funeral profession, as well as for the bereaved. Address: SAIF Business Centre, 3 Bullfields, Sawbridgeworth, Hertfordshire, CM21 9DB; telephone: 0845 230 6777.
